How Long Does Aqua Drops® Pure Last? Hair vs Skin, Explained
// The Geek Files · Longevity
Two clocks.
One service.
"How long will it last?" It is the first question every client asks, and with Aqua Drops® Pure the honest answer has two numbers in it, not one.
Pure is the world's first and only PPD-free, collagen-infused hybrid stain. It dyes the hair and it stains the skin, and those two results run on two completely different clocks. The hair holds the colour for weeks. The skin stain sits on the top layers of skin and leaves on the skin's own schedule. Give your client both numbers, with the conditions attached, and you will never get the day-five message again.
// The Two Numbers
On the hair: up to 6 weeks.
On the skin: 10 days max, and only with full prep and aftercare.
The hair number is the reliable one. The skin number is a ceiling, not a promise.
On the hair: up to 6 weeks
The dye bonds to the keratin of the hair and stays in the shaft. It leaves only when the hair does, through the brow's own growth and shedding cycle. That is why the hair result is the number you can stand behind: up to 6 weeks, and it fades gradually as new hairs grow through.
On the skin: 10 days max
The skin stain is full depth on day one, then softens as the stained cells shed. 10 days is the maximum, and only the best-prepped, best-maintained skin gets there. It takes all three of these:
- Full prep. Oil-free cleanse, exfoliate, saline degrease, then bone dry. No grab without clean contact.
- The 24-hour dry window. No water, cream or makeup on the brows while the stain settles.
- Aftercare at home. The client keeps her skincare off the brows and follows the aftercare card.
Take any one of those away and the days come off the end. Oily, exfoliated or neglected skin lands earlier.
Why 10 days is the maximum
I get asked this every week, so let's do what we always do here and understand the WHY properly.
Pure is absorbed into the top layer of the skin, the stratum corneum, and bonds to the keratin there. And there it stays. It doesn't go any deeper, and it isn't meant to. Everything below that layer is living tissue, and a brow stain has no business down there.
Now, that top layer is made of flattened keratin cells, and on the face it is thin. Roughly 10 to 15 cells deep, about a tenth of the thickness of a sheet of paper. Your skin is making new cells at the base of the epidermis all the time, pushing them upwards and shedding them at the surface every single day, with a full renewal roughly every 28 days.
Let's do the maths
The stain grabs the outermost layers. The face sheds roughly one layer a day. So even on skin you have prepped perfectly, those stained layers are gone within about 10 days. The top layer goes first, which is why your client walks out with full depth on day one and it softens a little every day after, rather than vanishing overnight.
Why your prep moves the number. When you exfoliate before the service, you're clearing off the loose cells that were going to shed tomorrow anyway, so the stain lands on firmer cells with more days left in them. Stain a cell that's about to fall off and that colour is gone by the morning. Saline then lifts the oil, so the stain bonds to the keratin and not to the sebum sitting on top of it. Exfoliate before the service and you add days. Exfoliate after it and you take them away.
Why the hair lasts longer. The hair is keratin too, but nothing sheds from the outside of the shaft. The colour stays put until the hair itself grows out and drops, which is why the hair holds for weeks and the skin lets go in days.
No skin stain, from any brand, will ever outlast the skin it's sitting on, because the skin sheds and takes the stain with it. Think about self-tan: it colours that same top layer, and it's gone in about a week. Explain it like that and your client stops comparing her brows to a tattoo.
What decides the days
| Factor | Why |
|---|---|
|
Prep Adds days |
Clean, degreased, dry skin gives the stain full contact |
|
24 hours dry Adds days |
Water and product dilute and lift the stain before it has settled |
|
Aftercare Adds days |
Skincare kept off the brows, maintenance as per the card |
|
Oily skin Takes days |
Sebum sits between the dye and the keratin, so the grab is lighter and lifts faster |
|
Exfoliants Takes days |
AHA, BHA, retinol, scrubs and pads shed the stained cells early |
|
Peroxide Takes days |
Benzoyl peroxide and whitening products attack the dye itself |
|
Sun, pool, sweat Takes days |
UV, chlorine and friction all speed the fade |
|
Scar tissue Unpredictable |
Birthmarks and scars may take the stain lighter, or not at all |
The oily skin client
Oily skin will naturally not last as long. Expect the short end of the range and say so at consultation. Saline degrease is what moves an oily client from around 4 days towards 10.
Keep these off the brows while the stain is wearing
- Benzoyl peroxide acne cleansers, gels and creams. Ask at booking: it is the most common at-home cause of a stripped stain
- Peroxide-based whitening, brightening or clarifying products
- AHA, BHA and retinol skincare near the brows
- Strong exfoliating or alkaline cleansers, scrubs and makeup remover pads over the brows
- Chlorinated pool water, so rinse the brows with clean water after swimming
- Strong sun without protection, as UV fades the warm tones in any stain first
- Sunbeds and fake tan for 24 to 48 hours after the service
Say it before the mirror, not after
Set the expectation on day one and write it on the aftercare card. Use the same words every time:
"Your hair colour will hold for up to six weeks. The skin stain lasts ten days at most, and only with the right aftercare. It fades as your skin naturally renews, faster if you use acids or exfoliants near your brows or your skin is on the oilier side. That is skin, not the product."
Five shades, same two clocks
Every Pure shade follows the same rules: Onyx (black), Enigma (dark brown), Lustre (medium brown), Ignite (light brown) and Aura (blonde). Mix them and you have a full suite of custom colours, so every client gets a shade made for her.
Rebook on the hair cycle
The hair colour holds for weeks, so book her back on the hair cycle and refresh the skin stain at the same visit. A client who understands the two clocks books her next appointment at the desk, not three weeks later by message. And for the client who wants to soften her own skin stain sooner, the Tint Eraser Foam lets her control the fade at home.
// Quick Reference For The Treatment Room
Hair: up to 6 weeks. The reliable number.
Skin: 10 days max, only with full prep, 24 hours dry and aftercare. A ceiling, not a promise.
Shortens it: oily skin, exfoliants, peroxide, sun, chlorine, sweat.
Never permanent on skin: the stain leaves as the top layer of skin renews.
FAQ
How long does Aqua Drops® Pure last on the brow hair?
Up to 6 weeks. The colour stays in the hair until the hair grows out and sheds.
How long does the skin stain last?
10 days max, and only with full prep, the 24-hour dry window and aftercare at home. Oily skin and exfoliating skincare bring it in earlier.
Why does the skin stain fade faster than the hair?
The skin stain sits in the top layer of skin, which sheds every day. The hair colour sits inside the hair shaft, which stays until the hair itself sheds.
Can the skin stain last longer than 10 days?
No. 10 days is the maximum, because the top layer of skin renews and takes the stain with it. Proper prep with saline, 24 hours dry, and keeping acids, exfoliants and peroxide products off the brows get the client as close to 10 days as her skin allows.
